In this blog entry, I'm going to take you through some basic page prep process for those who want to art journal on a daily basis. Some of you will prefer setting one day per week to work on their journal; others will prefer spending 10 minutes every day. There is no right or wrong, try both and see which one fits better to your lifestyle and daily routine. Here is a sample weekly plan for those who need a helping hand.
Friday
Painter: Prep a page. Cover the seam with masking tape to prevent leakage. Gesso over the masking tape.
Writer: Set a timer and write in your art journal. Circle words that jump out at you.
Collage: go through magazines and rip out images that interest you.
Scrapbook: Grab a photo and glue it into your book. Divide your page in half. Write everything that the photo makes you think about in one half.
Doodler: set a timer. Fill your page with one shape. Fill the shape with more shapes
Saturday
Painter: use one of the background techniques on your page. Try a few.
Writer: write a story or poem using the words you circled
Collage: cut out images from he pages selected
Scrapbook: Circle the words that interest you in what you wrote yesterday. Play with lettering styles on the other half of your page (draw, stamp ...)
Doodler: Draw another shape.
Sunday
Painter: Add pattern, stamps, collage, or drawing
Writer: look at your story or poem and start rewriting it with your own words. Try different styles.
Collage: Glue down your images randomly.
Scrapbook: add images; alter the background by painting over, adding textures. Play with it
Doodler: add colours
Monday
Painter: Apply gesso or paint on a stencil and apply on your painted page.
Writer: Make a list.
Collage: use paints, pencils and markers, go bold.
Scrapbook: find a detail and write about it.
Doodler: find something else to doodle with, maybe use the other hand, put your pencil on a stick and doodle, stray away for the road!
Tuesday
Painter: add collage, images or textures.
Writer: add drawings, or paint.
Collage: add text, use your own handwriting or collage words from articles.
Scrapbook: design a frame
Doodler: add words
Wednesday
Painter: add text
Writer: doodle
Collage; add colored papers pick a color. Start cutting squares from patterned paper or magazines that are in that color.
Scrapbook: Fill the frames with photos.
Doodler: use a printed page and doodle over it.
